Acharya Lama Sönam Rabgye

Acharya Lama Sönam Rabgye grew up in the Tibetan community of the remote Upper Manang Valley on the border between Tibet and Nepal. Thus he himself experienced the hard life of the local population. He had to support his family until he was twenty-one and only then could he leave to study Buddhist Philosophy at the Shri Nalanda Institute Rumtek in Sikkhim, India.
Subsequently he taught at Karma Lekshey Ling Institute in Kathmandu, Nepal.

He was given the title of an Acharya, a Buddhist scholar and is a profound teacher of Buddhist Philosophy and meditation on Sutra, Tantra and Mahamudra level.

Lama Sönam has lived in Germany as Resident Lama of the Kamalashila Institute (Eifel, near Mayen) for almost ten years. In his countless courses, he continues to inspire many people with his kind manner and profound knowledge. He is acknowledged as a wonderful facilitator of authentic Tibetan Buddhism and is a welcome guest in many centres across Europe.

In December 2008 His Holiness XVII Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorje welcomed him in Dharamsala, Northern India.

He feels a deep personal responsibility to help those who suffer:

“There are so many suffering, who get very little or no help at all, such as the homeless or poor. These I want to support with
‚Himalaya Karuna'.”
